New Hair Style

Hoping that everyone is finding this new site! I just love it. It’s much better than the other one and more user friendly.

After about 6 weeks of my hair thinning out, I was finally ready to shave it. It wasn’t an easy decision. It was one I struggled with from the moment my hair started to thin. Initially it wasn’t too bad. Then I decided to cut it short and my wonderful hairdresser Ann gave me a cute short cut. That worked for a while, but the thinning continued. My hair had stopped growing! Anyone that knows me knows that’s the strangest thing because my hair grows very fast. Anyway, it stopped growing, it continued to thin out and then it began to look unhealthy. I kept hanging on.

Then, we got the wonderful news that the tumors had shrunk tremendously! That was my turning point. Once I heard that, I said, ‘If I’m having this kind of result, I can live without my hair for a few months!’ During vacation I noticed a couple of bald spots at the front of my head. My hair still covered them, but it was questionable how long that would continue.

During the first week of vacation my scarf collection began. Julie and I picked out a nice black/white/tan scarf at J.C. Penny. During the second week of vacation Julie, Diane, Alisha and I took a trip to Watch HIll and my collection got much larger. I bought several scarves at two different stores. When we got home that night Julie taught me how to wrap them and twist them to make them a bit different that just a scarf on my head. I was able to do it myself quickly. I can even make a flower out of the scarf at the back of my head!!! Talent I didn’t know I had. I now have a great collection of many colors – plain color and multi-prints.

I hung in during vacation, but knew as soon as we got home that I’d be contacting Ann. I texted her Monday and sent a picture. She agreed and texted me Tuesday morning. I had an appointment for 3:30 and she’d style my wigs also. Ray went with me and we FaceTimed with Julie.

Once I’ve made up my mind, I begin to embrace it. I was excited! Sounds crazy, but true. I’ve got to admit that I’ve always wondered what I’d look like without hair. And now I know. And it looks pretty good. My hairdresser, Ann, said, “you’ve got a mannequin head!”. No dents, no scars, no peaks or valleys!

Ann quickly styled both my wigs and did a wonderful job. I wore the short one home and favor that one. I quickly found that wearing the scarves and/or skull caps are more comfortable. At this point I’ll just decide what I’ll wear on my head depending on where I’m going or how I’m feeling that day.

Jay and Heather came down as soon as we got home. Jay told me that I looked 10 years younger! I’ll take that compliment anytime! LOL Heather sent me some wonderful poems and quotes during the day before I went and they helped seal my determination to follow through with this decision! She’s a sweetheart! Had fun with them–took off my wig and showed them the real deal and then put on a couple of different scarves throughout the evening. We had a great time!

I also went out yesterday to CVS! It took a bit of self talking, but I knew I had to bust through that wall. I put on a denim cap with a little bow on the back that I purchased at the Mass General store and out I went. Now I know I can go out and not feel self-conscious . YEAH!

Well, I’ve rambled enough. I’ll be updating soon about vacation, etc. Thank you all for your love, prayers and support! You are my strength.
Love to all,
Bea
